Curbside Media is a nonprofit publisher dedicated to validating the triumphs and struggles of marginalized communities. Our projects bridge cultural, economic and generational gaps to promote human dignity and inspire progressive action.

Jim Flynn, Co-founder

Jim Flynn was born in Albany, New York 1977. He recieved his BS in Special Education from the State University of New York at Geneseo in 1999 and is currently in his seventh year of teaching at the Bayard Rustin Educational Complex in Manhattan. His first book Stranger to the System: Life Portraits of New York City Homeless Community (Curbside Press 2003) sold over 7,000 copies. He resides in Manhattan's Lower East Side with his pet walrus Oscar and is considering possibilities for another oral history project.
